Delicious Alternative [27 Dec 2006|08:45pm]

I was spending the weekend at my Nanny's and she offered to make me a grilled cheese. Imagine my surprise when she used raisin bread and mozzarella! And imagine my complete SHOCK when it tasted so delicious I couldn't even explain it if I tried!! I definitely suggest you guys give it a try. It rocked my grilled cheese world.

Campus Food [26 Oct 2005|03:00pm]

[ mood | hungry ]

Out here on campus I find that my default food I order at the cafe is grilled cheese. I have to eat it about three times a week at least...

When they offer crappy food, I just gotta have my grilled cheese sammiches.

It makes me feel at home.

Mmm...cheese... [20 Sep 2005|08:54am]

[ mood | cheesy ]

Hello! I just joined the community because, wow, who doesn't love grilled cheese sandwiches? Or as my boyfriend calls them, "cheese grills." I don't know why, but it might have something to do with him growing up in the sticks.

I am the kind of gal that will actually get up and go to the grocery store because I am craving a grilled cheese sandwich (cheddar cheese on whole grain bread) rather than simply making myself something else to eat. I have never tried the toaster/microwave method mentioned earlier in this community, but seeing as how my workplace has both of those appliances, I am mighty tempted to try it for lunch today. I hope it works out!

GC poetry [19 Sep 2005|08:01am]

A un Marxist semi biblical political poem for Buddhist

Never say the words grilled or cheese
in a restaurant that doesn't have mom
or diner on the sign somewhere
you'll not get what you ordered
(kind of like ordering fry bread but that's another poem entirely)
the melted cheese sandwich
you receive in a restaurant
may sate your hunger
but not your spirit
it will be missing the essence
missing the soul
missing the LOVE

The melted cheese on toasted bread sandwich
you'll get will not be the perfect grilled cheese sandwich
and we all know that you wanted
to the perfect grilled cheese sandwich
that's what we all want
a perfect grilled cheese sandwich
is not merely a tasty treat
it is a spiritual yard stick
by which we can measure the meaning of our lives
it is a cultural metaphor
by which we can ascertain
our social standing in universe
equation is simple
GC + FS - SU over X
solve for X
translated into culinary terms
the lower you are on the class scale
be better the grilled cheese sandwich you make
two slices of thrift store bread
two slices of the cheapest cheese you can find
pat of butter on each side
equals spiritual fulfillment

Sun dried tomato bread and feta cheese
is not a perfect grilled cheese sandwich
this is a cosmic constant
sun dried tomato bread and feta cheese
is a brusceta not soul food

This is not a complicated concept
this is in fact secret church doctrine
this is in fact darmic truth
think back to the last perfect grilled cheese you ate
the time you spent waiting for the sandwich to cool
(perfect grilled cheese always comes straight from the pan)
anyway to cool down period is referred to in the Bible
as purgatory
while eating the outer crust and forbidding yourself
gooey cheesiness of the inner sandwich
is called penance
while the rest is inner peace and Nirvana
sweet creamy Nirvana

bread is the body of Christ
butter is the blood of Buddha
and melted cheese is the only thing in the universe
that good karma will stick to

Brothers and sisters can you see where I'm going
do you know what I'm heading
that's right I am talking about revolution
I'm speaking about a uprising
never before seen in entire history
of dairy consumption
that good book says
the meek shall inherit the earth
but what good king James
didn't translate it is that they'll do it
with a strategic use of grilled cheese sandwiches
"there was grilled cheese on the walls
grilled cheese on the ceiling
grilled cheese on the stove
I love the smell of grilled cheese in the morning
makes me think of victory"

Maybe I have gotten ahead of myself
I don't want to start any grilled cheese manifestos
no conspiracy con queso today
I just want to convey
a little-known fact about
two parts bread
and one part cheese
a simple spiritual oneness
of a perfect grilled cheese sandwich
one bite and mmmmm amen

How to make the lazy man's grilled cheese (for those who don't have/don't like stoves):
Start with at least two pieces of bread, more if you're feeling hungry. Put them in the toaster until they are about the colour of J-Lo's tan.
Get your cheese. I prefer a half and half mix of cheddar and mozzarella, but Kraft singles work good on this too.
Butter the bread, one side only, and (this is important!) the buttered part will be on the INSIDE of the sandwich. No grilling, means no outside butter.
Put the cheese on the butteryness, as explained above, and then place in microwave for 10-30 seconds, making sure the cheese does not melt out of the sandwich.
Take out of microwave, slice diagonally, add a side of ketchup and enjoy.
Approx. time: 2 minutes

After pondering the existence of such a community, I stumbled upon it...Grilled Cheese Addicts anonymous or the like. When I was in high school, I'd make grilled cheese for breakfast, and honestly, nothing else hits the spot at 7 in the morning.
If I couldn't have grilled cheese I'd cry. Real tears. To me, sandwich perfection are yellow cheese singles, white bread and ample butter. Browned on both sides and gooey in the middle. With tomato soup to dip, it's an absolutely perfect meal for any occasion. If there is a heaven, it's made up of tables upon tables of eternally warm and gooey grilled cheese sandwiches. Because it's heaven, you never tire of eating the same thing over and over, and you never get fat.
Oh, gooey, cheesey, buttery perfection. Who can resist?

History [27 Nov 2004|06:08am]

[ mood | hungry ]

Grilled Cheese was the first thing I ever taught myself to cook.
Not Toast.
Not a bowl of cereal
Not Kraft Dinner (which I can't stomach anymore...boo)

But the grilling of the cheese was what pleased me.
I never make sense.

But anyways. I bought a sandwhich maker, which yeah sure it's okay if your busy and whatever but it's not the same as an ol'fashioned frying pan, a slab of butter and some cheddar cheese.
Slow cook.
Nice and toasty
I'm hungry.
Hail the Cheese!

heaven! [27 Jul 2004|10:25pm]

i can not believe that there is a grilled cheese community... i almost cried!

i have a sad story:
i am a grilled cheese addict. and i am proud of it. because i love grilled cheese. my favorite grilled cheese is from Johnny Rockett's. they use Tillamook Cheddar Cheese. needless to say, it's incredible. during the school year, i would have grilled cheese once or twice a week (whenever someone can make it for me, because i refuse to use the stove). and during the summer, i would have it at least 5 times a week, if not more. now, last summer, i found out that i have extremely high cholesterol. i knew that part of the reason was the sheer amount of grilled cheese sandwiches that are in me. since that time, i've only had it four times... the times i've been to johnny rockett's. i miss grilled cheese, because i love it. if my cholesterol doesn't go down, i'm going right back to eating grilled cheese. it's just so tasty.

Generation X [16 Feb 2004|05:05pm]

[ mood | annoyed ]

This has nothing to do with grilled cheese but it's totally boggling my mind, i cant help it.

Is it sad that our generation is a generation of medications, technology, and biast attitudes?

I have just begun to realize that almost every person I have come to know has a problem. Let me not leave it at that. A lot of people are medication. Not medication for ear aches or the flu, no...I'm talking hard-core depression symptoms. Does no one realize how many of us commonly have depression or a disorder? It's almost sad to think that it is so common. It shouldn't be common. Have we become so mingled that it is inevitable that you are medication for such things? I mean, I'm not dissing the fact if you have a medication and seriously need it, I in fact have a medication as well...

But is the world so horrible that every teenager these days are to resort to a pill in a bottle to make it go away? The world should not be this horrible...nor should we have this much problem with it all.

And another...our generation is disprespectful of the past. I admit, I as well do not appreciate some great things that need appreciation. Like art, music, people, fact, traditions...etc. We don't acknowledge it. I'm trying harder to...and it makes me sick that some people are just too good to realize that maybe the generation they live in is not a great one.

Technology has taken over (I don't mind it...but it can get out of hand). People are subject to biast views and opinions, brainwashed to be like others.

"It's a very very mad world."

There's been a kind of "war" at my school to whether Combos or Grilled Cheese is better.

Clearly Grilled Cheese is so much better.

hi, i'm new, i love grilled cheese, as i see everyone else does. i like mine with a bit more kick than normal old white bread with butter and singles though. first off, i love mine on dark bread or sour dough YUM. i also like to use different cheeses, but not singles. cheddar, colby jack, mozzarella, even parmesan. and i love to spice it up.

the BEST grilled cheese sammich recipe:
take a bunch of butter or margerine ( i use moove over butter whipped margerine)
then add in a pinch of each of the following -

  • seasoned salt

  • garlic powder

  • onion powder

then add in a few dashes of parmesan cheese
after the spices and parmesan is mixed in to the butter really good, spread it on your bread, put in whichever cheese you want and grill as usual.

one other thing my boyfriend loves to death is putting a slice of cheddar on one side and mozzarella on the other.
